The main reasons conceded during the study were: expansion of the company, replacing the less productive employees, replacing the retired employees, replacing the employees who resign and lastly because of the changing technology. The study revealed that the main reason why companies choose to recruit new employees is because many employees appear to be less productive and so companies are forced to. 80% of the respondents agreed with this reason.

Other found reasons are existing employee retirement, changing technology and the company’s expansion. The study revealed that most of the companies (50%) had recruited new employees in less than the one year. These results revealed the fact that many companies normally recruit new employees, which could be added to its total expenditure.

The study has also revealed that, the main reason as to why companies choose to recruit new employees is because of replacing the less productive existing employees and replacing the employees who resign from the respective jobs. This study findings draw us to the limitations that visual resume has.

Disadvantages of Visual Resume

Not Ideal for Online Job Portal

This is the major limitation of visual resume. Visual resume cannot be uploaded on online job portals. Some of them contain the options of uploading the images of the candidate but it is very rare. However, the images cannot help much for one to get a potential employee. The study revealed that most of the companies use visual resumes in recruiting new employees, as it is the case with today’s digital world. In the case where the employers fail to upload the online job portals and employee does not use the images, it can lead to recruiting individuals who does not fit the position. That is why in the study, it was revealed that companies frequently recruit new employees in order to replace the existing ones.

The study also showed that employees normally resign their jobs. Visual resume also contributes to this. This is due to the fact that while sending the applications online, the individual cannot get a clear picture of the job or a person, he/she is dealing with. This is what makes majority of employees to resign from their jobs after a very short time. The employees may resign because they are not pleased with the fact that organization is frequently seeking to employ new people, what affects the organizational performance.

Visual resume highly contributes to the cases of cheating especially on the side of the job seeker. Employers are interested in how suitable an individual is and what his or her supporting qualifications are. Many employers are tricked through a visual resume and as a result, they end up picking the wrong person for the job. This is what contributes to hiring employees who are less productive than indicated in the study. The less productive employees therefore contribute to the poor performance of a company, hence there is a need to replace them with the new ones.

Expensive

Visual resume requires great designing skills. If one lacks great designing skills, then making a visual resume can be highly costing. Many sites are available with custom visual resumes. After one gets the hard copies of visual resume, editing then can be impossible unless one decides to omit certain sections. The individual therefore is required to submit the same resume everywhere irrespective of the requirements of the specific organizations. This really costs the jobseeker.

Not Readable by the Automatic Tracking Systems

Visual resumes are not readable by the Automatic Tracking Systems. This kind of systems only picks keywords from the resume, which are written in old traditional way. However, these online application systems do have an option where you can add some additional files where you can add your visual curriculum vitae.

Choosing the Right Format It is very important to choose the resume format very carefully, a bad format may act as negative and employee may get deselected.

Employer’s Point of View

Sometimes employers do like old traditional resume with no graphics and colors so it is like taking the risk if you get the employer who likes visual resume.

Advantages of Visual Resume

Despite the above disadvantages, visual resume also has some advantages. In the study, it was revealed that majority of today’s companies use visual resumes. This can mean that visual resumes are very beneficial and that is why many companies like using them. Here are the advantages of visual resume.

An Opportunity for the Job Seeker to Provide More Information

It is not easy for the candidates to express themselves properly through the traditional resume. Many employers do not have time to read many pages written by the candidates, they even may become bored while going through the resume and as a result pick another candidate. For this reason, candidates choose to use visual resume in order to express themselves fully the way they like and in an attractive way, which usually attracts the employees unlike in the traditional resume where they are forced to be brief in their applications.

Job Recruiters Like Visual Resumes

Despite the fact that traditional resumes are jungles of education, professional and personal details of every candidate, a beautiful and professionally made visual resume is normally the best option as it conveys the same things but in a more attractive way. The highly interactive multimedia-based format may often leave a permanent impression in the minds of the employees and make the particular candidate score over other applicants with the same credibility or even more.

Proper and Managed Data

It helps you to present the information in such way that it does not crowd the pages. With visual resume, you can highlight the important information with graphics instead of using fonts and other words formatting.

Explained Details

The graphics you using in the resume help you to explain your details in much better way than the simple words, you can use info graphics in order to highlight your skills.

Balance

Info graphic resume is good option in order to fresh one’s resume. People who does not have much information to fill in the resume can use info graphic to fill all the information in one page and people who have lot of experience can also fill all the information in one page; so visual resume works for both.

Recommendations

The study revealed that visual resume is beneficial almost for all the companies and for that reason many companies choose to recruit new employees through it. However, despite the many advantages visual resume has, the companies face many challenges through it. Should companies quit from using it? Should individuals send their applications through traditional resumes where they cannot express themselves in details? This is not possible since many job recruiters nowadays recommend visual resume.

Visual resume should be recommended in terms of recruitment. In order to deal with the challenges, after recruiting the employees through the visual resume, recruiters should also ask for the traditional resume in order to combine and compare both. This will enable the employers or job recruiters to recruit the right person in the job position. For the candidate this will give a chance to express him/herself in details as he/she likes. A strategy of combining the two resumes should therefore be recommended in order to solve the disadvantages arising from the visual resume.

Conclusion

According to the study, visual resume has both limitations and benefits. Despite the many challenges faced under visual resume, it was seen to be the appropriate way of recruiting new employees. The study findings revealed that 80% of the respondents use visual resume in recruiting new employees while only 20% use traditional resume. These results mean that majority of the companies currently use visual resumes in their employee recruitment. However, the study found that nowadays, majority of companies are faced with challenges of regularly recruiting new employees. The main reasons are replacing the less productive workers and those who resign willingly from their jobs.

From the study, it can be concluded that visual resume has both its strengths and weaknesses. The question is: is the use of visual resuming the effective and efficient way to recruit employees? It becomes hard to get the appropriate answer to this question. Resume can help one to get the job he/she wants. So if one puts efforts in making resume he/she should surely see the positive response. Before sending the applications, one should think of who is going to read the resume and make it in a way that suits the job and his/her profile. One should therefore choose the right resume format that will help him or her secure the job he or she is seeking for.
