Personal Nursing Philosophy

Nursing, the Concept →

I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is not simply work of helping other people but a calling to me. I have never struggled to give aid to those needing it. It is an honorable career where I put myself in the shoes of the sick taking their pain as though it were mine. Patients cannot be handled carelessly, but rather tenderly and in a loving manner. I am persuaded that the healing process is enhanced by the way I handle patients making them feel special. Dedication I have to serving the sick triggers healing psychologically. My nursing philosophy is that I have an obligation to the public to offer patient-centered, holistic, and safe care because nurses are called to attend to community health needs.

Core and Focus of Nursing

Care is the core of nursing. Nursing and caring are entwined to the extent that the former will never make sense without the latter. Care is a sensation and the exhibition of empathy and concern for others. Compassion is also a component of care. Nurses must have it in their hearts if they want to obtain the desired nursing qualification. It is not possible for professionals in this field to be able to satisfy their patients unless they have determination to give their all in the care for patients (McCutcheon & Stalter, 2017). Caring can be pointed as a basic value of nursing. Nursing activities are centered on human wholeness restoration to the normal functioning state. The focus of nursing is getting the mortal body to its normal state, where each organ functions accordingly. It is demonstrated in nursing practice using creative knowledge acquired via theory development, research, and logical analysis. The nurse is personally engaged in active partnering pertaining to human care for clients across their life.

Personal Vision of Nursing

The metaparadigm concepts of nursing, namely a person, health, environment, and nursing, are vital in the personal vision of nursing. Human beings are perceived as valued persons that desire respect, care, and comprehension with the sole right to making informed decisions or choices concerning their health (School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science, 2014). Nurses are to offer available options that can aid to solve clients’ medical conditions and allow them to choose. The health of humans may be affected by such dimensions as psychosocial, physical, or historical development processes, economic, cultural, and political aspects in society (School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science, 2014). It is the responsibility of nurses to be always conversant with all these issues addressing the health of a patient. The level or degree of person’s health is the direct expression of the interaction process with the environment (School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science, 2014). Nurses should always understand the environment where patients live and acquire many details of the same to make a reasonable conclusion to administer a necessary medication. Nursing practice is guided by the human values of choice, freedom, and responsibility (School of Nursing, Health, and Exercise Science, 2014). Nurses are trusted professionals that are to uphold these values and give patients due care. My values and personal beliefs affect my nursing practice by helping me take a human life as very significant. When caring for the sick, I consider the life of my patients as the most vital and exercise caution to prevent errors that can put a life at risk. Thus, nurses should always assure excellence in the profession through evolving the nursing science . They should be responsive to professional, financial, patient, healthcare, and community changes and needs at all times.

Personal Philosophy of Nursing and My Patients

As a nurse, I give priority to patients’ needs. In case of a situation where the latter conflict with mine, I will always ensure that patients’ wants go first. When the need arises, mentors should stand to guide me so that I never make mistakes. All that I do is about the sick, and that is why, I should always be accountable for any action. Thus, caution should be at the forefront to guide me in all activities that pertain to the profession (Marchuk, 2014). Fellow nurses are some of the greatest resources I have, and in case I need their advice, they will help me. Such collaboration in the nursing profession is crucial for the maximization of patient’s welfare.

Personal Philosophy of Nursing and My Patient’s Family

Nursing revolves around care for the sick. When a person faces a critical health condition, family members are affected, and end-of-life issues may even arise in some cases. These are hard times when support from healthcare professionals is required. It will always be vital for me as a nurse to discuss treatment options and life-sustaining treatment methods with patients’ family before administering them to the sick (Grover, 2018). It is essential that nurses will never make decisions on their patients without consulting with their family (Grover, 2018). End-of-life problems should be decided by the family only.

Personal Philosophy of Nursing and My Health Care Professional Colleagues

Colleagues in nursing are a significant part of the professional body. They have to be accorded with respect because they are vital sources of info that cannot be ignored. Each of them has a role that can be important in my life as a nurse. As I continue learning to remain up-to-date and relevant in the field, I will greatly depend on them for moral, material, and info support.

Personal Philosophy of Nursing and My Health

Providing care for others gives me satisfaction. I have a self-drive that aids me to perform my duties. At the same time, satisfaction acquired via caring services I give promotes my health. The more satisfied a person is, the healthier the one becomes.

Conclusion

Nursing is about dedication to care for those with health conditions requiring medical attention. It requires nurses to keep updating themselves with the most current info to offer the best services. Nurses should put patient’s needs into consideration. They also have to consider patients’ family members and their colleagues for all their actions. They are vital stakeholders in the field of nursing.
