Mission, vision, and values statements communicate health care organizations’ fundamental purposes, desired future, and employee conduct expectations that can help potential patients choose where to seek treatment and employees where to seek employment. However, in achieving their mission, vision, and values goals, healthcare organizations face multiple internal and external barriers. The internal barriers include staffing constraints, heavy workloads and time pressures, lack of awareness, poor communication and leadership, staff’s cynical views toward the goals, and little motivation (Ghiasipour et al., 2017). External barriers include political decisions, lack of sponsorship and funding, inequitable distribution of resources, poor local infrastructure, and bureaucracy among others (Seshadri et al., 2021). Understanding these barriers is key because it may lead to coordinated efforts to overcome them.

When seeking employment, healthcare professionals must understand and be able to articulate the mission, vision, and values of the organization they want to work for. After all, the mission statement's primary goal is to communicate what is essential based on shared interests and underlying beliefs (Trybou et al., 2017). Organizations seek to encourage and inspire organizational members to assist the organization in its pursuit to fulfill the organizational goals by defining their mission and societal contribution (Trybou et al., 2017). Therefore, being able to articulate the mission, vision, and values means that the potential employee knows what is expected from them. Once they can clearly understand what is expected, they can fulfill their obligations properly and hold themselves accountable, helping others in an incredibly significant way. Therefore, learning these characteristics of an organization is important to be able to help realize the organization’s goals.
