The United States celebrates the Flag Day on June 14. The same day US Army celebrates its birthday. The holiday has a long tradition rooting back to 1777. The resolution of the Second Continental Congress adopted the flag of the United States. There is an interesting story of the invention of the American flag.

The legend says that George Washington asked the Philadelphian seamstress Betsy Ross to create the flag that would be used further as a symbol of independence. When the US claimed the independence, it consisted in 13 states. The Flag has 13 stripes where each of the thirteen states had its own stripe. Only 150 years later, in 1916, the US President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed the June 14 to be the official Flag Day. Since then, there were 27 official versions of the US flag. The stars were added when the new states joined the US. The current and the last version of the US flag was adopted in 1960 when Hawaii became the 50th state of the United America.

The Flag Day is not a federal holiday in the US, but it is one of the biggest celebrations of the American patriotic ideas. The flag of the US represents freedom and fundamental traditions of the United States. On June 14, most houses and building in across the US display the American flag as a ritual of honor. Red, white and blue are seen at every corner, building and car. Various events are held this day. Many towns and cities perform the official ceremony of flag-raising.
